Waterfront
5k Series, 22 December 2009

The weather was perfect tonight for the final Brooks 5k Waterfront race in
2009. A light northerly and warm conditions made for a nice change from
the previous weeks. The number of finishers (88) was a down a bit, but not
surprising with a lot of people having already headed away on holiday.
Three of our yellow shirt tour leaders scored victories tonight. Brian
Garmonsway was first across the line in 16:22. Tim Dutton (28:54)
and Terri Grimmett (32:21) lead the walkers home, with Philip Grimmett the
second male in a personal best time of 29:34. Stephanie Mackenzie won the
women's race and score a great PB of 18:02 in the process. Second woman
was 60-year-old Bernie Portenski in a fantastic time of 18:57. Early next
year she will attempt the 10k world record for her age group. Good luck
