Brooks Waterfront 5k Series, 27 October 2009

Well tonight felt like mid-winter! A strong cold southerly wind greeted the hardy group of 102 competitors that fronted for the 13th race in the Brooks 5k Waterfront Series. 

Hamish Carson continued his winning ways, this week posting a time of 15min 31sec (32sec slower than his record breaking effort of last week - an indicator of the strength of tonight's wind, perhaps). Hamish was chased home by Hayden Shearman (16min 2sec), who made his series debut tonight. Michele Allison (19min 51sec) had a convincing win in the women's race, beating her sister Bernie Portenski (20min 17sec). 

The Yellow Shirt holders dominated the walking race. Tim Dutton recorded a fast 28min 52sec, while Terri Grimmett (30min 59sec) recorded another win in the women's walk. 

Our sponsor The Loaded Hog Bar was closed again tonight, as new owners prepare to take over the operations. So unfortunately we couldn't provide the liquid refreshment afterwards. But the new owners are keen to continue the sponsorship arrangement, so expect a return to our normal arrangements with The Loaded Hog (free beer, spot prizes, and prizegiving venue) as soon as the bar reopens - hopefully in time for next Tuesday night. 

And remember the participation prize: This will reward the eight participants who complete the most races from 15 September to 15 December. The top three will receive a Brooks prize pack valued at $200 and the next five will receive a Brooks prize pack valued at $100.
