Loaded Hog 5k Early Autumn Series, Race
2, 13 March 2007
Well
it’s finally happened – the weather played its part to drive away the participants for tonight’s waterfront
5k. Just 35 hardy souls fronted for a run/walk in conditions that were quite still, but very wet.
Fastest around the course was Tim Armstrong with a time of 17:09, with second placing going to Brian Garmonsway
in 17:17. Third place went to Mark Anderson in a time of 17:40. Quickest woman tonight was young Aubrey Begley
who ran 19:47. Next across the line was Janet Crawford in a tick under 20 minutes –
posting 19:58 and taking third place was Karen Ewart in a time of 22:23.
Race walkers were a little thin on the ground tonight with just four taking to the race. First and only man home
was Johnny Hines in 32:40 with the women being led by Carol Briesman in 35:13. The next was Daphne Jones in 38:58
and then Colleen Singleton just a tad over 40 minutes (40:14).
A huge thanks to Dan, Todd, Bob plus The Scotties who were in attendance – as a warm-up to their Cancer for
Life Relay to be held this weekend at
Frank
Kitts
Park
and surrounds. $70 of our race entry fees were donated by Wellington Scottish Athletics Club to the Cancer
Society Relay for Life Appeal. Go The Scotties & Notties.
It was great to go back into the warmth of our sponsors, The Loaded Hog, and enjoy a complimentary ale or
beverage plus the weekly spot prizes loaded full of sponsors' products.
And so on to Race 3 next Tuesday, 20 March 2007 – with we hope a return to the summer weather and large numbers
of participants. Daylight Saving will be with us but it’s same time, same place as usual.
