Loaded Hog 5k Summer
Series, Race 11, 13 February 2007
It
was another almost perfect night for the Loaded Hog waterfront 5k race. Just 63 participants competed tonight.
With last weekend’s many activities in the Capital - Half Marathon, 10k, Capital Classic Track series as well
as Scorching Triathlon and the Clarrie Gibbons race tomorrow evening - this is completely understandable.
On to the
results. Mark Woodhouse cruised around in the race walk to record a 31:01 first place with a long break back to
Ian Sutton (34:42) and John Leonard in 35:21. Fastest woman was Diane Isherwood who posted 35:36 just ahead of
the ever-consistent and most dedicated of Hog 5k race supporters - Carol Briesman who recorded 35:45. Third was
Daphne Jones crossing the line in the same time as walk guru (and husband) Bart Jones.
Fastest
around the running course was young John Atkinson of Scottish. He scooted around in 17:06 with second place going
to Brian Garmonsway in 17:21 and just a short gap back to Gene McNaught on 17:27. Quickest of the women was
Jacinda Papps – also of Scottish – recording 19:22 for a win and a huge PB as well. Next home was Emma Gear
of Hamilton Hawks in 20:03 and third was Fleur Baker in 23:22 – fresh from the Scorching Tri on Sunday where
she was 7th overall in the women’s medium distance race.
As always, thanks to Scottish helpers – Dan, Todd, Vaile, Paul, Mike, Grant and also Zachary – our home-base
minder.
The large group of new registrants for tonight’s race scooped a huge amount of the Loaded Hog Spot prizes –
all coming from one small lucky space in the bar area it would seem! Oh, and Tim Armstrong finally struck a spot
prize – after zillions of 5k races. Thanks for your support, Tim – now you can focus on breaking through into
that 16-minute time barrierJ.
Our last fortnightly 5k race will take place on Tuesday 27 February 2007 and it will also see the conclusion of
the 12 race series with "special incentive" prizes up for grabs for those who have competed in at least
seven of the races. Then it’s on to Series 3, a set of 6 weekly races until 10 April 2007 – when we lose
daylight for after-work races and therefore we head straight into a winter of harriers – where Scottish offers
excellent running/walking options and extends an invitation to all Loaded Hog participants to come along and try
us out. More about what we do in the next month or so.
See you all
in two weeks then, or next Tuesday, 20 February 2007, for our last outing and reps up at
Newtown
Park
– 6pm sharp.
