The Loaded Hog 5k Series 2, Race 4, 25 October 2005

The Loaded Hog LogoThe calmest night so far this spring – and with sunshine as well – many came back complaining the sun was too hot (at 6pm in the evening). Still, that’s runners for you – they have to have something to blame for the time recorded.

Yet more new competitors tonight, which was great to see, but sadly very low participation of only 83. Scottish’s Todd Stevens took out the run in a sharp time of 15:37 with Grant McLean only a little way back in 15:48. Michelle Hopkins took time honours for the women with 17:42 and Gabrielle O’Rourke was home second in 18:31.

First race walker home was Ian Morton (two weeks in a row) in 31:12.  However, he was pushed by a newcomer to the series, Valleys United’s Richard Willis, who took second with 31:19. Lynn Broad took time honours for first woman race walker in a time of 33:13 – distancing her rivals.

Next week sees a clash with another great race – The Melbourne Cup – but we will still bring you close to the atmosphere. All entrants in next week’s race will get automatic entry into a sweep with those drawing the winning horse going into a Super Draw to win a $50 Cash (winner takes all) prize. Courtesy of The Loaded Hog, the race will be replayed on in-house TV as we return from our race. We shall be on the ground floor next week – with upstairs being a special afternoon for the race – only $10 registration I gather – call Loaded Hog to get further details.

Next week also requires a small course change (due to Waterfront activities) – we shall be going out through Te Papa’s courtyard and the along Cable St as usual.  It's still a measured 5k (out and back) course, though. More on that at the start line next week.

See you all there.
