The Loaded Hog 5k Series 2, Race 5, 1 November 2005

The Loaded Hog LogoMelbourne Cup night was a good night for winners and many were evident on this relatively calm Welly evening (and on a slightly altered but accurately measured) 5k out & back waterfront course. Eat your heart out, Makybe Diva.

On this side of the Tasman, overall time honours were again taken by Grant McLean in 16:05 with Gabby O’Rourke being the fastest woman on the night in a time of 18:26. First home in race walking was Rupert Watson in 30:23 with Ian Morton close behind and Lynn Broad showing her consistency in recording another 33-minute race walk in the women’s walk section.

The sweep (a free draw for all who entered the run) was won by Gabby and John Stobba jointly – both showed they were not true gamblers and were happy to take half (each) of the $50 cash prize on offer – rather that go for winner takes all. As well, there were some very happy spot prize winners tonight – good to see our guest selectors sharing the prizes around.

Yet more winners - as I heard of at least six participants stating they ran PBs tonight – so all in all a good evening – with 74 finishers in all.

Thanks to all the crew who helped officiate tonight – Dan, Bob, Stu, Nev, and some with longer names -  Paul, Glen, Todd and Matyas.

Don’t forget our generous sponsors – The Loaded Hog (who appeared to have a busy Cup day) and Lifestyle Sports – 53 Willis Street.

Jim Kerr
