The Loaded Hog 5k Series 2, Race 9, 13 December 2005

The Loaded Hog LogoA perfect evening for the finale of the series, with 90 participants all running/walking various course options in the absence of an official at a critical point - c'est la vie!

The first runner home was Grant McLean in a time of 15:51. The fastest woman runner was Lotty Baldrey with an excellent time of 18:35. Lynn Broad again took time honours for the fastest woman race walker in 33:46 and Ian Morton went close to breaking 30 minutes in a time of 30:33 - first race walker home overall.

Tonight was a special draw night where we had additional incentive prizes up for grabs - courtesy of The Loaded Hog (2 x $100 gift vouchers) for the most improved (lucky draw to Paul Crompton) and most regular participation (lucky draw to Ian Morton).  51 competitors over Series 2 had their chance after competing in five races or more.

In addition, we recognized the commitment of four people who have participated in ALL nine races over Series II - namely Lynn Broad, Paul Homan, Martin Snodgrass and Paul Crompton - with a certificate offering them the first four races in January and February 2006 free of an entry fee.

The Series was also supported well by groups of athletes - all with numbers of around 8-12 - the two special $100 cash prizes going to Team Us and Team Te Papa and the early morning crew with Martin Snodgrass and Des Young both collecting the prizes on behalf of their respective teams.

A HUGE thank you to our sponsors - The Loaded Hog, Lifestyle Sports - 53 Willis Street and of course Dan Powell for his generous cash incentives.

Thanks also to Wellington Scottish members who have risen to the occasion when it was decided to ensure a waterfront 5k for Wellingtonians each Tuesday of the spring, summer and autumn. Tonight's crew were Dan, David, Bob, Todd, Nev, Stu, Zac, Mike and Ewan - well done, one and all!!

Our next race is Tuesday 10 January 2006 - same time, same place and I will reconfirm the course to all - in case too much Xmas Cheer has ruined the memory cells - check out the 5k series link on Wellington Scottish's home page (and this one) for a closer look at both series results.

One last vote of thanks - to Paul Rodway in the background - he's the web man who ensures you have results on your screen first thing Wednesday morning after each race, as well as lots of other newsy athletic articles/happenings around the globe and here in good ole NZ.

Lastly, best wishes to all of you who have helped make our races such a success. Hope you have a great Xmas/New Year break - have fun, keep safe and enjoy the odd run or two.

Come along to Newtown Park on Saturday evening for a fun night with the Scottish Night of Miles - especially the infamous Scottish Spiral Race (a handicap race over 2 miles - suitable for anyone who has competed in the 5k series). Check out related articles on home page for more info.
