The Loaded Hog Logo 62 participants this evening – despite a brisk southerly but no rain. Many stated the course was great with a southerly as you have a tailwind on the homeward leg of the race.

Dougal Thorburn (now a resident in Wellington) recorded an excellent race winning time of 15:45 tonight - which puts him up there in the top 5 fastest residents’ runners this season on our waterfront 5k series of races – all are sub 16-minute times and all were by Wellington Scottish members. It is perhaps fitting that we welcome Dougal to Wellington Scottish Athletics Club.

For the record, those times are: Grant McLean 15:26 (20 Sept 2005); Tim Hodge 15:32 (14 March 2006); Todd Stevens 15:37 (25 October 2005); Dougal Thorburn (tonight) and again Grant McLean 15:48 (25 October 2005).

NOTE: International runner Peter Vail did 15:13 back in Sept 2005 as a warm-up to the World Mountain Running Champs

Fastest woman tonight was Gabrielle O’Rourke (Wellington Harriers), putting in another excellent sub-18 minute run with 17:46 and a distance back to the infamous Bernie Portenski. Fastest race walker was a real battle tonight – with Diane Isherwood just pipping John Hines by one second (it was the dip I think that did it!) in a time of 33:35.

Thanks to Dan, Kathryn, Bob, Todd, David and Ken for their officiating tonight. As a special thank you, it was fitting that we were able to present our dedicated Race Starter Dan Powell with a Loaded Hog Guinness pack for his excellence in participation and dedication to the three race series since 9 August 2005 and also to Scottish.

Next week, we shall definitely be filming all runners – both out and back and following the race this will be replayed on the big screen – so stay on at Hugo’s, perhaps have another beverage and see yourself in a staring role. For those who wish, copies can be provided to help examine running style, technique issues, etc. So don’t forget to put your favourite running gear on. (We postponed this from tonight owng to weather reports not looking conducive to a good turnout.)
