The Loaded Hog 5k Series I, Race 7, 20 September 2005

The Loaded Hog LogoUnder the stillest conditions yet, Martin Snodgrass and Lynn Broad had a ding-dong battle for top place in the walk, finishing in that order in about 33:30. In the run, Canadian mountain runners took first and third spots: Peter Veil ran the course in 15:13, the fastest time in the series so far, with compatriot John Lofranco just over a minute behind. The Kiwi meat in this Canadian sandwich was Grant McLean who ran his first Loaded Hog in a fine 15:26. Mark Te Punga celebrated his return from several years of residence in Japan with a fourth place.

First women were all from the Kevin Ross coaching stable: Sarah Christie (17:51) with Michelle Hopkins and Bernie Portenski about 12 seconds behind. I notice many 5kers ran in the Petone half/10k on Sunday, which may explain why numbers were a little down on last week.

Thanks to our helpers taking entries, at the finish taking times and numbers, marshalling out on the course.  And thanks to you, the racing punters, for making the series a success. Please support our sponsors, the loaded Hog and Lifestyle Sports.

Next week is your last chance in the series to be in the running for most improved over at least five races.

"What happens next after next week?" I hear you cry. "How do I keep these hard-won improvements?" Well, Jim Kerr is following this series with set of seven races (4 October-15 November) to bridge to the Olympic Harriers fortnightly series starting on 22 November. So you can do 5k races through to the end of February, and perhaps do the Olympic Harriers' half marathon on the Wellington Anniverary Weekend..
