Loaded Hog 5k Race, Autumn Series, Race 2, Queens Wharf, 11 March 2008

NOTE:  If you feel your time is stated incorrectly, please e-mail me with your hand time and any details you may have to help us get the results accurate. Sorry, we had a few issues this evening - jim@RainbowFinancial.net.nz

Well, it had to happen sometime – we got a lousy strong northerly this evening which made it a tough night on the Wellington Waterfront. Still 71 dedicated participants finished the race. PBs were scarce but we did have one and well as three SPBs, as far as I can see. Do let me know if I have missed your efforts.

Walkers: Tim Dutton won tonight’s walk and recorded a winning time just a tad slower than last week’s time – 30:33 and so well done, Tim. Second home and first woman was Terri Grimmett who has been thriving on a varied diet of walking, running and also she was highly placed in her grade at the National and Oceania Triathlon Champs held here on Sunday. Her time was 32:33. John Leonard took third place overall and second male in a time of 33:19. Next home was Carol Brieseman who took third woman in a time of 34:53 which was just a few seconds off a SPB. Next home was Hannah Minot in 35:19.

Runners: Evergreen Scottish athlete Grant McLean returned for a short 5k blast to add some variety to his marathon training on the waterfront course tonight and posted a solid time of 16:44 – given the conditions. Maintaining their regular podium finishes again tonight were Brian Garmonsway and Jason Waite who ran 17:16 and 17:48 respectively to take second and third places. Young Valley’s athlete Katie Fenton returned for a victorious effort to win the women’s race in a time of 19:01. Second place went to Marjolein Ros in 20:14 and third went to Victoria Sugden with a time of 20:22.

With the conditions, just one competitor has earned my shout as I offered to buy everyone who ran a PB and celebratory ale. Congratulations to Simon Holmes. Just two seconds but you did it! Simon was one of 17 Price Waterhouse Cooper’s participants tonight. Most were proudly sporting their employers running tops and this was a record number of attendees for them. Well done PWC for sponsoring these employees – they do you proud!

Thanks to Dan Powell, Bruce and Noeleen Perry, Todd Stevens, Karl Woodhead plus other Scottish members Bruce McCallum and Chris Harp for helping to officiate tonight’s race.

Just four more weeks left for the Loaded Hog 5k races – the next race is Tuesday, 18 March 2008 (same times – no change at this point) until 8 April 2008.
