Loaded Hog 5k Race, Autumn Series, Race 3, Queens Wharf, 18 March 2008

Well, a great change back in weather conditions with an almost still night for the race – 84 finishers for all the races. PBs were thin with just three. However, there were at least 19 season’s PBs. Do let me know if I have missed your efforts.

Walkers: Glenn Burrell returned from "the Naki" to blast around the course again tonight and chop nearly a minute off the previous all-time best for the walk. His time tonight was a smoking 22:12. Tim Dutton took second with a time of 30:44 and third went to John Leonard who walked 33:39. The women’s race was a close contest with Hannah Minot coming through on top with a time of 35:14. Carol Brieseman had to be content with second place tonight but was not far behind in 35:24. Third place was again taken by Andrea Adams who posted 37:18.

A warm farewell to Robert Bennett (a longstanding Scottish member of 30 years+) was bid tonight as he moves to Auckland to be closer to his family. Safe walking in the Big A, Robert.

Runners: Maintaining their regular podium finishes again tonight were Brian Garmonsway and Jason Waite who ran 16:45 and 17:12 respectively to take first and third places. Brian is nearing his personal best time, and so all augurs well for the start of the 2008 Harrier season which is just weeks away (29 March). These two were split by a Cantabrian in Wellington for this week. Bruce Clulow claimed second in a good time of 16:55 and it was great to hear his positive comments of our waterfront course – he especially enjoyed the scenery I gather and even went so far as saying it was comparable to racing around Christchurch ’s Hagley Park ! Charlotte Wood returned victorious this evening in winning the women’s race in a time of 18:05. Second went to Victoria Jackson who ran 19:36 and not far behind was Victoria Sugden in a time of 19:45.

Congratulations to those who ran lifetime PBs - With the conditions to suit I thought we may have had more. Well done to Stuart Holden (- 43s); Brent Gilchrist (- 19s) and Tara Donnelly (- 6s).

Prize-giving was held in the luxury of the Loaded Hog Function Room – congrats to the winners of the weekly $25 Hog Vouchers – Veronica Taylor; Bruce Clulow; Robyn Iremonger and Stephanie Pegg – I’ll e-mail you for addresses tomorrow. Thanks again for your understanding – hopefully the Hog’s printer will be in action shortly.

Thanks to Dan Powell, Bruce and Noeleen Perry, Todd Stevens, plus Scottish senior women helpers, Mandy Simpson, Jeanette Bourke, Jane Loughnan and Lotty Turnidge plus Christine Jones and Della Laird out at the turnaround cone.

Just three more weeks left for the Loaded Hog 5k races – the next race is Tuesday, 25 March 2008 (same times – no change at this point until 8 April 2008).
