Loaded Hog 5k Early Summer
Series, Race Two, 17 October 2006

participants competed in tonight’s Loaded Hog 5k event – with light southerlies prevailing to offer near-perfect
conditions – even if a little chilly for the officials.
Fastest around the course tonight was Angus Jennings (Scottish) in a time of 16:20, just a couple of seconds off his best
with Jeremy Boyd (Valleys) just 2 seconds behind in 16:22. Fastest woman tonight was Gabby O’Rourke (Wellington Harriers)
in 17:31. This was just a second off Gabby’s best time on the course this season with Melissa Moon (Scottish) making her
first appearance for a while in a waterfront 5k recording 17:51.
Quickest race walker tonight was first-timer to the series - Mark Woodhouse (Scottish) in a grand time of 28:55. From my
recollection, this is the first sub–29-minute time recorded since Sept 2005 (when James Hurring and Amelia deLorenzo –
both Wellington Scottish champion race walkers – blasted around in 26 minutes something. Next home was Mike Lane (Taranaki
Walkers) in 29:43 with Simon Reynolds (Scottish) next in 31:27 (yet another PB). Fastest woman race walker was convert
Melissa Carr (Olympic) in 31:47 – shedding nearly 30 seconds off her first attempt last week. She had a stirring finish
with Andrew Shelley (Trentham) tonight and both crossed the finish locked together. Ingrid Woodhouse (Scottish) was next
home in 33:29 in her first-ever Loaded Hog 5k walk. She also picked up the Lifestyle Sports - $50 prize of the week.
