Loaded Hog 5k Early Summer Series, Race Three, 24 October 2006

Not great weather conditions tonight with cold blustery southerly winds but 33 hardened athletes hit the asphalt for the weekly "Hog" 5k fun run.

Fastest out and back was Tim Armstrong with a time of 17:15 – not far off his best  5k time so far this season. Next home was Brian Garmonsway in 17:35. Deano Gaskin raced into 3rd with 18:03 (plus picked up the Loaded Hog 6-pack prize for his troubles). Gabby O’Rourke was next home and fastest woman with a time of 18:05. Next woman to finish was Alice Wilson, posting 18:17.

Not many race walkers out tonight, but Mark and Ingrid Woodhouse had a match race with Mark prevailing by three seconds in 32:30. Ingrid again picked up a weekly spot prize (second in a row) so a great start to this series for her.

Despite the low numbers, there were some great little head to head battles going on out there tonight – just going to prove that these races provide great opportunities to race and also learn how to lift to a challenge, eh, Rob?

We had a large percentage of participants enjoying The Loaded Hog’s warm surroundings and a recovery beverage – all perhaps expecting more sponsor products given the odds were better tonight! Neil Price picked up the weekly Lifestyle Sports – 53 Willis Street $50 discount voucher. Sadly, some were still disappointed, but hey – at least you all got a great training run in today. More than we can say for those softies who stayed at home, put their feet up and watched Coro Street .

Thanks to the hardy officials – Bob (Deputy Starter) and Kathryn, Todd and P Teamers – Paul, Jakob and Vaile – taking the pressure off and allowing me to have a run.

Here’s looking forward to a return to summery conditions next week and over 100 runners/walkers out on the course – Yeah right!
