Loaded Hog 5k Early Summer Series, Race Five, 7 November 2006

Melbourne Cup night produced 51 finishers on a night where strong northerlies prevailed – making the return leg a good battle into the wind in many places.

Fastest around the course tonight was Ross Morrison with a time of 16:24. Just seven seconds back in second was Gianluca Valsenti in 16:31 with Brian Garmonsway taking third in 18:08. Fastest woman was Bernie Portenski in 18:44 with Aubrey Begley next in 20:23 and young Ariana Harper coming in third in 21:22.

Quickest race walker was Mark Woodhouse recording 29:17. Next male was John Hines in 33:13. They were split by the fastest woman with Melissa Carr (recording yet another PB) in 31:43 and Ingrid Woodhouse next in 32:43.

Not many PBs tonight, but definitely a great training night. Next week is the last weekly Loaded Hog 5k with our races moving to fortnightly after the 14 November 2006 race. There will still be a 5k race on the waterfront with the Mizuno 5k operating from the Chicago Bar – same time, same day, same start/slightly different finish – but a very a different course.

Thanks to Scottish Members for the officiating of tonight’s race. Todd, Bob, Kathryn, Dan, Neville, Karl & Matyas (turnaround).

This evening we also hosted Jacob Baty of The NZ Sport’s Academy (based at Westpac Stadium) – I hope some of you will take up the offer of a free 30-minute personal consultation during this week, to see how they can use different tests/analysis to assess and offer programmes to improve weaknesses and technical aspects of mechanics. To book a consultation time, contact Rachael Isaac-Kupenga - Peak Performance Centre Manager by email on Rachaeli@nzas-c.org.nz

Ok – next week perhaps we can find some fine weather and meet our goal of 100 athletes out on the course.
