Loaded Hog 5k Race, Spring Series, Race 3, Queens Wharf, 21 August 2007

Despite a fairly bitter northerly, this evening's race saw 92 participants roar around Wellington ’s waterfront – a great way to get warm no doubt! I think all the officials wished they were running as well! Brrrh…

Anyway, backing up from Saturday’s Welly Road Champs was Scottish’s very own programme manager - Rohan Biggs - taking fastest time of the night, and the series to date as it happens, in a smart time of 16:18. Second was clubmate Carl Daucher (fresh) just four seconds back in 16:22 and third overall was Alastair Adams in 17:05. Having placed 4th and 3rd in the first two races, Michele Allison jumped to first woman home tonight in a time of 20:30, followed closely by Emily Buskirk who improved her time from last week to 20:44 (despite the conditions) and third went to Anna Falloon, returning to our series of races in a time of 21:02.

Of the race walkers, Johnny Hines was fastest around the 5k course tonight in a time of 33:22. Second overall and fastest woman was Leanne Palmer with a time of 34:56 and taking third place was Hannah Minot in a time of 36:00. All three are Scottish athletes also backing up from the Wellington walk champs on Saturday where they walked 10k. Looks like a good week for John Hines as tonight’s win gave him a double victory inside four days. Gearing up for yet another overseas trip to the world masters, no doubt – where ever they may be!

A big vote of thanks to Scottish members who helped officiate tonight’s races – The senior women were out in force – Natalie Smith, Kendal Morgan-Marshall, Tina Harris, Aubrey Begley, Karen Gillespie, Mandy Simpson, Vanessa Green, Rebecca Speirs (turnaround official) as well as the regulars, Dan, Bruce, Todd and a lending hand from Nev as well at the finish to guide everyone through the finishing chute.

Great to go back to the Loaded Hog’s lovely warm bar and enjoy a bevy and for the lucky few – some spot prizes – compliments of our sponsors. Tonight’s winners of $25 Hog vouchers were Kate Hadfield, Mary Lewis, Gene McNaught and Sam Eccles (I’ll get these to you either by mail or perhaps at next week’s race – will be in touch), but the Pub Pet, the Weekly Wines and the $50 Lifestyle Sports voucher was also well received.

Also great to hear that many of you are bringing down work mates, friends, partners, etc. to join in the activities. What better way to spend a Tuesday evening!

Until next Tuesday – same time, same place  - see you all on the 28th .

SPECIAL MENTION: Don’t forget the invite to come and have a pack run with us this weekend, if feel like a run. We’re operating from our Clubrooms in Prince of Wales Park and as I said tonight any friend of the Loaded Hog series is welcome to come and have a run with us – good chance to see what we do!
