Loaded Hog 5k Race, Spring Series, Race 5, Queens Wharf, 4 September 2007

Well, it had to happen sometime – all 55 participants had to run in the rain around Wellington’s waterfront this evening – but it wasn’t all that bad with a southerly breeze which made it cold, but you hardly noticed it once you got moving. Those are my thoughts on the matter, in any case.

Walkers:  Ian Morton was first home tonight and well clear of his rivals in 31:04. John Leonard was second male home in 33:48 with Gordon Attwood claiming third place in 44:23. The fastest woman around the course tonight was Leanne Palmer who posted a time of 34:22 for first. Hannah Minot was second in 37:35 and Ang Johnston took third place (and broke 40 minutes) with a time of 39:46.

Runners: Fresh from his 2007 National 10k Road Champs title (Men’s 35+) on Saturday in Auckland, Grant McLean (Scottish) stormed around in a Series One best time of 16:16 to take first place. Over a minute back was Mark Te Punga (Wellington Harriers) taking second in a close finish in 17:23 with Paul Bird, just one second behind in third. Quickest woman tonight was Michele Allison (Scottish) in 19:44 (her best time this series so far) also nearly a minute clear of her nearest rival – young Rosie Milloy (Trentham Harriers) who posted 20:38 for second place and taking third was Pam Graham (Scottish) with a surprising time of 21:12. I say this because Pam (a machine, it would seem) has posted the exact same time for all her last three races – in different race conditions, of course, with tonight’s no doubt the worst.

A huge THANKS to the officials tonight – Dan Powell, Todd Stevens, Bruce and Noeleen Perry, David Lonsdale, and assisted by the Scottish masters men – Paul Rodway, Dave Colquhoun, Steve Plowman, Chris Harp, John Gardiner and Api Williams.

And so – to Race 6 next Tuesday, 11 September 2007 – same time, same place, same course.
