Loaded Hog 5k Race, Spring Series, Race 7, Queens Wharf, 18 September 2007

Almost perfect conditions for tonight’s race with the PBs and series PBs just continuing to roll on. 78 participants for this week.

Runners: Fresh from a win in Sunday’s Petone 10k in a very sharp 32:06, Grant McLean (Scottish) posted a series best time of 15:46 to win this evening’s race - shattering the previous best time by a huge 27 seconds just as he had privately promised to me last week. Is there someone out there who wants to try and claim the title back again? Second was Carl Daucher who also lowered his series PB to 16:06 and third was debutant to “The Hog” 5k – Andrew Young who was just a few seconds back in 16:13.

Fastest woman was again Gabby O’Rourke who recorded a similar time to last week with 17:40, beating Suzi Richards who raced to a PB of 17:48 for second place. Third was Tina Harris who posted a life-time PB of 18:13. Well done, Tina!

Walkers: Youth prevailed in tonight’s race with teenager Alison Samson (Wellington Harriers and Athletic Club) blasting around the course in 31:30 to take first placing overall. This was Alison’s first time at “The Hog” 5k walk. Another new participant took second overall, with Terri Grimmett recording 33:26. Next home was David Lonsdale in a time of 35:01 with just a few seconds back to Hannah Minot in 35:10.

Of those results that I was made aware of, two other lifetime PBs were recorded tonight - Neil Stodart (Scottish) with 21:15 and Edward Sargisson (Scottish) - a huge improvement by over 30 seconds I gather to record 21:27 – Congratulations to all who achieved PBs in tonight’s race.

Thanks to The Scottish Men’s C and P Team members for officiating this evening – Karl Woodhead, Neville Henderson, Jim Jones, Evan Roberts, Paul Brydges along with Todd Stevens, Dan Powell plus Noeleen and Bruce Perry (who inform us they’re taking an overseas getaway holiday next week – enjoy!).

Prize-giving was interesting this evening – with some long-standing supporters finally getting recognized and one family – namely the McLeans all featuring. However, neither Grant, Craig nor Karyn were there to claim their spot prizes – sorry, folks!  And yes, Jeanette, I have located the Lifestyle Sports $50 voucher you won tonight – thanks to the special skills of John Skinnon (our guest selector) which was witnessed under the presence of police supervision, no less!

See you all next week.
