Loaded Hog 5k
Race, Summer Series, Race 1, Queens Wharf, 9 October 2007
Almost
calm tonight with just a light northerly to confront the 68 participants prepared to turn out. It would seem many harriers
were taking a break after the weekend’s NZ Road Relay Champs in Timaru.
Runners
: Fastest around the 5k
course tonight was Paul Bird (Wellington Harriers) in 17:19. Second place went to Greg Taylor in 17:39 with a few seconds
back to Dave Parsons in third with 17:46. Fastest woman again tonight was Carline Thomas (Wellington Harriers) in a time of
20:08. Next home was newbie Rachel Neutze in 20:49 with third going to another first time participant tonight in Dawn Kelly
who posted 22:12. An interesting point was that both winners backed up from their trip to Timaru so it obviously did them no
harm.
A huge number of
eason’s PBs tonight – in fact nearly a quarter of the field. However, a couple deserve special mention. Mandy Simpson
(Scottish) also backing up from a good run in Timaru took almost 30 seconds off her 5k personal best tonight – a great
effort Mandy! Father and son duo Alan and Chris Leatham both recorded series PBs tonight with Alan (dad) having his last run
with us before heading back to the
UK
later this week. Travel safe Alan – it’s been great to have you join us. Keep up the good work back home.
Walkers:
The numbers and the
quality athletes returned tonight with Jan Bliekendaal heading the field in just a tick over 30 minutes in 30:05. Second
home was Ian Morton in 30:42 and young Alison Samson took third on adjusted time after starting 4 minutes behind the field.
She walked 30:55 in total. Next home was Terri Grimmett in 32:55.
Thanks to the Scottish masters
men team members for officiating this evening – John Skinnon, Api Williams, Mark Dollimore, Jonathon Harper, David
Lonsdale (on video duty again) along with Todd Stevens and starter Dan Powell.
Thanks again to the
Loaded Hog for sponsors product as prizes and for the complimentary beverages afterwards whilst we watched footage of
tonight’s race. Winner of the Lifestyle Sports $50 weekly voucher was Matt Thomas – and well received that was as well
by the look of the victory punch that Matt registered…
