Loaded Hog 5k Race, Summer Series, Race 3, Queens Wharf, 23 October 2007
Walkers:
The walking numbers
were boosted tonight with the return of Mark and Ingrid Woodhouse. Both walked PBs and clearly have returned with a higher
level of fitness. Mark took time honours in the men’s category with a super effort of 26:09 (a PB by over 90 seconds, I
gather). Second home was Ian Morton in a time of 31:00 with third place going to Phillip Grimmett in 32:51. Alison Samson
broke the magical 30-minute barrier and was just eight seconds off a PB – recording 29:58. She was proudly sporting her
silver medal from last weekend’s NZ Long Distance Walking Champs where she gained second place in the W19 15km road walk
race. Second place in tonight’s race went to Ingrid Woodhouse, with a PB time of 30:45 and third place went to Terri
Grimmett in 32:53 – just two seconds adrift of husband Phillip. Runners:
Fastest around the 5k course tonight was Grant McLean who just wanted a solid workout before his next target – the adidas
Auckland Marathon this coming weekend. No doubt the weekend’s competition will be very strong. Grant took line honours
comfortably tonight with a time of 16:53. Second home was Brian Garmonsway in 17:10 and third place was almost a minute back
in 18:09 and went to Jeremy Pitt. The finish of the women’s race was very close with Heather Walker returning triumphant
in 19:54 just holding out a stern effort by Carline Thomas who recorded a series PB in 19:55. Third place went to Betty Harp
who posted 20:56. Aside from the walkers
already mentioned, not many Series PBs tonight. Christy Lyons, however, showed another huge improvement to post a season’s
PB tonight – in fact maybe a season or two, and so a very good effort. And she still had energy left to head straight off
to an indoor soccer game! Thanks to the Scottish P
Team members for officiating this evening – Bruce Lake, Ed Sargisson, Karl Woodhead, with moral support from John Skinnon,
Mark Dollimore, Jonathon Harper, Steve Plowman, Rohan Biggs, along with Todd Stevens and starter Dan Powell. Thanks again to the
Loaded Hog for sponsor's product as prizes and for the complimentary beverages afterwards. Winner of the Lifestyle Sports
$50 weekly voucher was Paul Bird – thanks to a special guest selector's effort by Mark Dollimore (after he tried to offer
his own number to me – nice try Mark!). A
