Lifestyle Sports 5k, Fun Run
& Walk, Race 2,
Thorndon, 17 August 2004
It didn't start out too badly for the 19 foolhardy racers in today's event: just a bone-chilling southerly and slight precip. The really heavy stuff came about 10 minutes after we had finished (try hail in yer face, mate) and got worse as the evening progressed. Barry Ledington had a quiet race, chased (at a distance) by three juniors, Aaron Packard, Daniel Bond and Adam Carlson. Catherine Haviv led the women's charge. In the walk, late starter Rupert Watson was only slightly slower than his winning time last week Diane Isherwood was the first woman home. Thanks to the officials (who for a time easily out-numbered competitors): Todd Stevens, Bob Stephens, Jim Kerr (also a ghost runner. along with Keren Dravitzki), Kathryn Fraser, timer Dan Powell and, out at the turn, lurking behind an umbrella, Charles Broad. See you next week. Don't forget there'll be a special prize for best improver and an attendance draw from those participating in five or more races.
