Lifestyle Sports 5k, Fun Run
& Walk, Race 8, 28 September 2004
And
so it finished, not with a bang, but a wet whimper; a cold, damp
southerly guaranteeing positive splits for most of us. In the run,
16-year-old Shaun Hunt won in 16:11 in a return performance, leading in
Ben Revell and Barry Ledington. For the women, Gabby O'Rourke ran
17:50, about two minutes ahead of the second woman, Suzi Richards,
winner of the Petone half a couple of weeks ago.
It
was a a pretty
good turnout considering the conditions. Some people waited until this
evening to put in an appearance. Included in this category were the
first two walkers: James Hurring (26:27) and Amelia de Lorenzo (27:31).
Lifestyle Sports special prizes were awarded to: Adam
Carlson, Asics running shoes, for competing in at least six of the
races; and to Aucklander John Lacey, Asics running shoes, for showing
improvement over five races.
Note that Race 2 and Race 8 results were not included in the overall
assessment (because of the rotten weather conditions).
Thanks to the team of
organisers: Dan Powell setting us off and timing our finishes, Charles
Broad marshalling at the turn, recorders Alan Stevens, Kathryn
Fraser, Karl Woodhead, Bob Stephens and Jim Kerr, at the prize-giving. Congratulations
to all of you who competed regularly and showed personal improvements
throughout the series.
A final thank you to our sponsor. The Lifestyle Sports 5k series has
concluded, but the specials continue: Get 20% off ALL ASICS – be in
quick!!! Say you’ve heard of the Scottish 5k series to show your
support of our principal sponsor.
