Magills 5k Fun Run and Walk, Race 1, Thorndon, 4 March 2003

Near perfect conditions, with only the slightest of northerlies, attracted 71 participants. The front of the walk was occupied by the same pair as at last week's Twilight 5k, James Hurring and Amelia De Lorenzo.

First male runner was Stu Barr (16:10), with returning Glenn Hughes second (16:23). Bernie Portenski was fastest woman (18:05), while Rebecca Coutts-Buys was second (19:54, first time under 20 minutes).

It was good to see people turn out who were carrying injuries at the end of last year. Many juniors were absent today, no doubt exhausted by the battle for the McEvedy Shield (won, again, by St Pats Stream) and by the Hutt Valleys Zones meeting.

After five series of Magills races, we've had people leave the area, or stop running/walking and so we cut back the list to people who ran in the 5k series only in the past year and renumbered them. That's why you have a fresh, new number.

Please support our sponsors: Magills, BodyWorks and Lifestyle Sports. See you next week. Don't forget that walkers start at 5:45 and runners at 6:00.  Allow time to register and cover the 500m to the start.
