Magills 5k Fun Run and Walk, Race 4, Thorndon, 25 March 2003

You couldn't find better weather for a 5k race. Fresh from winning two silver medals in the national track race walks last weekend, Amelia De Lorenzo led the field and the walkers in with a time of 27:03. Second was junior Theresa Heenan, also from Scottish.

First in the run was young Valleys senior, Andrew McCarthy.  He was followed by Scottish junior Tristan Rodway. Scottish's Bernie Portenski was the fastest women runner, with a season's best of 17:45. Second was last week's winner, Carline Macdonald of Wellington Harriers.

It was good to see all the club singlets, signalling that harriers are underway (or nearly): the purple-brown of Kapiti, the blue and red of Wellington, the orange, white, red, etc, of Valleys United, the white, black and grey of Olympic and the yellow, red and black of Scottish.  If you'd like to make running your Saturday afternoon sport, why not drop by and check us out over the next few Saturdays? Scottish, for example, is meeting at 1:45 at Prince of Wales Park in Brooklyn. All clubs provide a variety of running and walking activities: pack runs, handicap races, interclub races and relays, running on roads, trails, grass, mountains and mud. It's a great way to see the Wellington area. Believe me, you won't get bored!

Please support our sponsors: Magills, BodyWorks and Lifestyle Sports. See you next week. Don't forget that walkers start at 5:45 and runners at 6:00.  Allow time to register and cover the 500m to the start.  Thanks to our organisers, marshalls and results takers.
