New Zealand Community Trust 2003 National Mountain Running Championships, Mt Victoria, 1 June 2003

A great, clear day, with a scrap of a northerly to help push you up Hay St (didn't help much). In the two-lap race over 8.8k, Melissa Moon came second to young Matt Prosser. Melissa had a five-minute gap to second-placed Maree Turner of Bays Cougars.

Michele Allison was second masters woman, sandwiched between Hamilton's Bridget Ray and Nelson's Frith Brown.

The men's 13k, three lapper was won in comfort by Hastings Harriers' Matthew Holder, with a slew of runners clattering in two minutes behind.

Overheard at the top of Mt Victoria after nearly one lap,  Pam Graham asks with a smile on her face, " How far behind me is Melissa?"

The total participation in all races was around 125. Video coverage of this will be part of NZ's bid for the 2005 World Mountain Running Championships on this course. Scottish members marshalled the uphill section between Palliser and the Peak (offering scraps of advice and encouragement!) and helped with the timekeeping.
