A great day for the finale of the off road-training runs for 2014. Making it particularly special was the return of Bob Stephens from a period of injury for only pack run of the year. Also hitting Ross's course across Transmission Gully and up the Puketiro Loop Track were Pam, Christine, Karen, Ross, John, and Paul. Puketiro means "hill with a view" and along the tops we saw scenic views all around us. It's a great course about 9k long, taking in our case a leisurely 1:20 with 440m elevation gain. It's worth visiting before the Transmission Gully road work cuts it off.
For the final Scenic Saturday Training Run, we are visiting Battle Hill Farm Forest Park, 6k north of Pauatahanui Village. That's where we run the Shaw Baton Relays at the start of the cross country season. Meet near the toilets in the park. Ross Lake has worked out a route that takes us to some of the other high points, some of the bush - plenty of scenic vantage points. After the 1h30 run, we'll head to a café in Pauatahanui Village for refreshments.
