Perfect conditions greeted the runners at Eastbourne, cool and sunny with a light Northerly. Alannah Clark raced herself to near exhaustion to run down American guest runner Ziibliins Johnson to be first across the line, and win the Novice Cup, much to the delight of parents Lyn and Marshall. Alannah was over a minute and a half faster than her estimated time!
Not too far back, and winner of the Galashiels Trophy (first on handicap amongst those who have previously won a Club trophy, and named after the birthplace of the Club’s founder) was a delighted Claire Jennings, nearly a minute faster than her estimated time.
Close behind Claire was the fastest woman on the day MelMacPhee with an excellent 20:14, 31 seconds under her estimated time. Mel was just beaten by club legend Michele Allison for the fastest age equivalent time.
Amongst the gents, Stephen Day screamed around the course overtaking almost the whole field from 2nd last starter, to the fastest time on the day of 16:31, 14 seconds ahead of his estimated time.
His wasn’t the fastest age equivalent time though; that honour belonged to the awesome Peter Stevens who prevailed in a great 5-way head to head battle with cousin Todd, fellow M50 superstar Grant McLean, and relative youngsters Andy Ford and Geoff Ferry.
Thanks to Stephen and all the helpers on the day, and thanks to everyone who raced – 48 was a good turnout.
