Round the Bays Recruitment Special - Save $20

  • As with previous years, we will offer $20 off the yearly adult membership fee to anyone who joins or rejoins the club on the day of Round the Bays (and pays within the week). So look for our tent, join early and save. If you are not at Round the Bays you can still get the discount by emailing membership@scottishathletics.org.nz on or before the day.
  • Round The Bays is coming up on 17 February, which is a huge opportunity for us to recruit some new rampant lions. Having a big strong club means we all have someone to run with, and that means a better chance of defending our Club of the Year title from Road Relays! We need as many people as possible at the event to help promote the club. If you're running, wear your Scottish shirt and chat to people at the start line. If you're injured, come hang out at our club tent at the Kilbirnie Park Festival and hand out flyers to the finishers and tell them how awesome we are. If you're able to help out at the tent (including helping with set up/pack down and transport), please email Michelle Knight (michelle.lou.knight@gmail.com) to let her know you're interested in helping.
  • Would you like to be a pacer for the Round the Bays? Each year the Wellington running community provides pacers for both the 10km and half marathon. The pacers always attract a large following of competitors on the day. The task is rewarding and very much appreciated, and a lot of fun. And of course entry is free, and a T-shirt provided. If you are interested, please email Todd (todd.stevens@pwc.com). Remaining Pace times are: 10k: 40min and Half: 1.25, 1.30

Upcoming events

2018-19 Waterfront 5k Summer Series, Tuesdays

  • The Waterfront 5k Summer series runs every Tuesday evening, 5.45pm, from Mac's Brewbar. Come and join us for a post-work fun run on Wellington's amazing inner city waterfront.

Round the Bays - 17 February

  • Round the Bays is the biggest running event in Wellington with thousands of competitors each year. There are three events to choose from 6.5 km from Frank Kitts Park to Kilbirnie Park, 10km or a half marathon. There is always a big turn out of Wellington Scottish singlets and it is an important start to the season and recruitment opportunity for us. Look out for our tent at the finish.

Fundraising for Nick Horspool's trip to World Cross Country

  • Athletics NZ has recently announced a team of 21 athletes to represent NZ at the 2019 World Cross Country Champs, which will be held in Denmark on 30 March. And we are extremely proud that one of our own members Nick Horspool has been selected.
  • Nick ran a fantastic sub 30min 10km race at Newtown Park last November, to cement his place in the team. Nick's selection continues a proud tradition of Scottish members competing at the World XC. The Championship is a truly global event with an incredible depth of talent, lead by the Africa nations. This will be an amazing experience for Nick.
  • Now the hard work starts - Nick is training up a storm as he gets himself in the best possible shape for the Championships. And the Scottish Supporters Trust is leading the charge in raising the funds to get Nick to Europe. The trip is unfortunately 100% self-funded, so representing NZ at this prestigious event comes with a $6000 price tag.
  • The Trust raises funds via donations from members. If you are in a position to support the Trust's fundraising campaign with a donation, and thereby help reduce the cost of the trip to Nick, the Trustees (Todd Stevens, Glen Wallis, James Turner) would love to hear from you. Donations of any amount will be gratefully received, and can be deposited into the Trust's bank account (38-9006-0470186-00). Add your name and WXC as a reference, and you will be sent a tax receipt (donations qualify for a 33% tax rebate).

Club AGM

  • The Wellington Scottish AGM will be on Wednesday 6 March in the evening at a venue yet to be confirmed.
