Options for the week

Around the tracks (results)

  • Fiona Hayvice finished 4th at the IAU 24 hour Asia & Oceania Championship and the led the NZ women's team to 3rd place. Sounds like an exciting race with Fiona leading at halfway and still only a few metres behind first at 18 hours - Results, article and photos
  • At the Kepler Challenge, Dan Jones came from behind to win in 4.59. Ben Twyman 05:51, Carla Dennehy 6:58 (impressive 6th place), Clare McKinley 7:57, Michael Eyre 8:23 - Stuff and Results
  • No results yet from the P Team Mountain Running Champs, but the news is that P Team icon Bruce Lake made his long-awaited return to Wellington running at the P Team Mountain Running Champs, but he was denied the fairytale victory. Emma Sturmfels and Serena Rudge reportedly had another close race, adding to crowd excitement about their Night of Miles matchup next week.
  • The IronMaori half ironman in Napier, unfortunately, turned into a duathlon due to poor water quality but Richard Sweetman won his age group in a time of 5:47:52 - Results
  • Waterfront 5km - results and photos
  • I accidentally omitted a result last week at the Pelorus Trust Runs. Ben Cornelius was third in the marathon in 3.18

From the captains

  • Last year the Scottish Night of Miles was an amazing night, with both great racing and great atmosphere. So make sure you keep 8 December free and head on down to probably the most fun 'track' meet of the summer. Entries now open.
  • If you can help as a volunteer please contact Andy.  He needs people to provide baking for the bake sale, collecting for Bellyful, people to help with setting up, marshalling, results and especially packing down afterwards.

Upcoming events

2018-19 Waterfront 5k Summer Series, Tuesdays

  • The Waterfront 5k Summer series runs every Tuesday evening, 5.45pm, from Mac's Brewbar. Come and join us for a post-work fun run on Wellington's amazing inner city waterfront.

Wellington Santa Run - 5 December

  • The Great New Zealand Santa Run at Frank Kitts Park in Wellington on Wednesday, 5 December 2018 is a 2-3km fun run/walk in a Santa suit! Each entrant receives a free Santa suit as part of their entry fee. Kids under 13 will get a Santa hat instead of a Santa suit.
  • Volunteers for Santa Run: If anyone from Scottish would like to help marshal or volunteer on the day please get in touch with chan@runwellington.com - it will be much appreciated.

Night of Miles - 8 December

  • You've only got a few days left to get your entry in for the Lifestyle Sports Scottish Night of Miles - we've got nearly 60 entries so far - so there will definitely be someone to run with. No need to enter for the Kids Chocolate Fish Dash or the All-Comers Miles with Santa.
  • This year's charity is Bellyful NZ. Bellyful provides meals for families with newborn babies and families with young children who are struggling with illness.
  • Night of Miles entries are now open at https://snom18.eventdesq.com.

Capital Classic - 18 January

  • The Capital Classic, on Friday 18 January is one of New Zealand's premier track and field meetings. It starts at 4.30pm and features a full track and field evening programme. The highlights are the women's and men's 3000m New Zealand Championships. Some of Scottish's top athletes will be competing (you can enter here) but even if you are not competing, do come along to watch. Scottish runners like Anne Hare, Rees Buck, John Henwood, and Hamish Carson have previously won this national title multiple times.

Helping plan NZRR

  • Marshall wants to step back from his role organising the NZRR logistics. The role would include making sure we have all the plans in place for the trip to go smoothly - this means, accommodation, transport and Saturday night dinner. You'd be working as part of a team, with a range of people, but specifically with me. It is a job you can do in your own time but it can get busy in the weeks before NZRR.
  • Marshall is super-organised and has already done much of the work for next year, including booking accommodation, dinner venue and transport. And I can help you with the rest. stephenday19@gmail.com.

New Early Singlets

  • John Plimmer has just received his latest batch of limited ‘early’ race singlets for summer and quite a few club members have been asking for them. Some very racy new colours, both male and female. Plus a new track design. Anyone interested can contact him, or talk to him at the Night of Miles this Saturday.

Summer track and field memberships

  • Summer track and field memberships to Scottish are now available for a discounted $110. Get involved in track and field at Newtown Park. Our annual season is half over, but track and field season has started. You can join us and take part for a reduced membership subscription of $110. Go to our online portal to join.
  • NOTE: If you are already a full member of Scottish, that membership already covers you for the summer track and field season.
