The Scottish Night of Miles is a twilight meet not to be missed in December. There are races for everyone from the very young through to college age, seniors, masters and even Santa himself. The event starts at 5pm and is organised by David Lonsdale, Athletics Wellington's President. The entry fee donation of $5 per individual or $10 for a family goes to Mary Potter Hospice.
This year the organisers are keen to include events for our younger juniors who are gearing up for the Colgate Games. There's a 60m, 100m, 200m, 800m races as well as 800m and one mile walk events. There's also shot put and long jump for field events.
The big events of the night are the Mile races with the Scottish All Comers Mile, the Junior Men's Mile, the Scottish Women's Mile, the Scottish Men's Mile. There's also a unique Spiral Race which is a handicap race where the runners start in lane 8 and after each lap move in one lap until they finish in lane 1 after running 3048 metres
Santa makes an appearance in the All Comers Mile Race - you never know where he'll finish. Will you be chasing him home or will it be the other way around?
Further information including how to enter will be included on the Athletics Wellington website under Events and 'Calendar' and the 'News' tab too over the next week. So keep Saturday 20 December free. Start time 5.00pm.
