If you are thinking about coming to Road Relays in Feilding let us know by filling out this form. In the next week, we need to decide how many beds to book at our hotel. Once we make that decision we will either need to pay for beds we don’t use or we will struggle to find any more if we don’t book enough. So, far we have 107 people going as part of 16 teams and 3 supporters.

  • Saturday, 2.00pm, Trinity Club shared run hosted by WHAC, Alexandra Rd, Newtown.
  • Sunday 8.30am, Long pack runs – contact Lindsay and Ben for info, or check Facebook for details.
  • Sunday 8.30am, New Zealand Half-Marathon Championship, Dunedin.

Results

  • Wellington Road Running Champs: Many great races. Congratulations to Dion Gamperle who just help off Sam Ellison by 1 second, and Emma Bassett who won the battle of the Emmas over Emmas Wharam and Sturmfels. Harry McLean came third in the M18 race. Another impressive run from Mel Stevens who was first in her age-grade and second overall, only 15 seconds behind the winner. Seamus Kane proved his Cross Country win was not just due to the conditions – Results, photos from Rowan, and photos from Sharon 7.5km and 5km, B&G U10, U12, U14, U16, MU18, 10km Vol 1, 10km Vol 2 
  • Sean Lake was the fastest 10km walker in the Wellington Road Walking Champs, finishing in 1:01:53. Also competing were Ian Morton (1:07:31), Arlene Wong-Tung (1:10:45), Terri Grimmett (1:11:57), Daphne Jones (1:16:45), John Hines (1:24:17) and Murray Gowans (49:05 for 5km)
  • Mark Moore was 3rd at the New Caledonia Marathon in 2:38:08 (with Boston marathon winner Yuki Kawauchi winning the race)
  • Ben Winder ran 35:42 at the Auckland Road Champs to finish 2nd M40 – Results
  • Seamus Kane finished first equal senior man in the Interclub Season Championship – tied with WHAC’s Isaac Murphy. Mel Stevens, who was undefeated all season comfortably won the W35 grade, as did Pam Graham in the W70 Grade. Michael Wray held off Grant McLean to win the M50 grade – Interclub Season Results

Upcoming events

3x3km Cannons Creek Mini-Ekiden, 7 September, 2pm

  • Time for some relay practice! This is a new event on our calendar. This three-person relay is run on the same park as the Bothamley Park Run. The course is a 3km out and back leg that each of three team members race. You turn up on the day and I will add you to a team (similar to how we did for the McVilly Shield at Karori Park at the start of the year). Meet beforehand at Corinna School. 

Tanadees Cup, Kilbirnie Pool, 21 September, 2pm

  • The Tanadees Cup is an 8km handicapped race around the Evans Bay/Balaena Bay waterfront. We meet beforehand at the Kilbirnie Pool then the race starts from the Wind Needle in Kilbirnie. It is a good opportunity for a flat road race to sharpen up before the New Zealand Road Relays. 

NZ Road Relays, Feilding, 4-6 October

  • The New Zealand Road Relays are the highlight of the year and this year they are in Feilding on 5 October. Scottish organises transport to and from Feilding/Palmerston North and around the race, race entry, accommodation and dinner on Saturday night. We subsidise the cost for everyone. So that you pay a flat fee of $190 if you are competing or $150 if you are a supporter. Notices

  • On the Run launched an issue focusing on rivalries today. As we will see over the next couple of weeks, every section of the club contains personal histories and subplots. In the first instalment, Andrew Wharton discusses the benefits of rivalries and recounts his showdowns. Look out for more stories on the theme over the next fortnight. If you have your own story to contribute then contact Simon or me.
  • Wellington City Council is upgrading reservoir pipelines near our clubrooms. This means significant traffic disruptions to streets surrounding the Scottish Clubrooms – including to Wright Street, Wallace Street, Hargraves Street and Hutchison Street. For any club events at the Clubrooms be aware that driving and parking may be difficult. For more details see this update from Wellington Water.
