Pelorus Trust Half
Marathon, 10k and 5k Petone, 17 September 2006
A glorious day greeted this exploration of the undulations of the lower Hutt Valley. A record number of entrants - 1,031 - over the three distances and the walking and running events helped the organisers, Hutt Valley Marathon Clinic, to raise $1,761 for the Special Olympics. Results so far are provisional, with some obvious, early glitches - confusion between some walkers and runners, times a place out, places a time out, etc. So take these early results with a grain of salt - you never know, it may help hold off the leg cramps. Top spot in the running half marathon went to Olympic Harrier junior Matt Singleton (74 minutes). Fastest Scottish runner was Rohan Biggs (1:23). Lotty Baldrey was first woman home in 1:25 - a good time in her build-up to the Melbourne Marathon next month. Aubrey Begley was third woman, in 1:35. In the half marathon race walk, Peter Baillie was first in a crisp 2:12, 13 minutes ahead of third place-getter John Hines. Grant McLean ran 33:56 to win the 10k, while Karen Gillespie was third woman. In the 5k, David and Florence Reynolds used the race to tune up for the Wellington Secondary Schools Road Championships at Wespac Stadium this Wednesday. They should do well; they were first male and female in the race. Full Results (Hutt Valley Marathon Clinic) | Previous Full Results
