Wellington Scottish has a proud history of competitive racing. You'll see our yellow singlets out in force at local races, and we're represented at most major races in New Zealand.

Inter Club

Each year our members compete in the local inter club series of individual and team road and cross-country races and track & field events during summer. These races are suitable for all runners and have no time limits, although some (such as the hilly Vosseler cross-country race) do require a reasonable level of fitness to complete them. Scottish compete each year in a league of three biggest inter club races, the Wellington Cross-Country Championships, the Wellington 10km road championships and the prestigious Dorne Cup, to determine the club's best runners for the year.

National Championships

All racing members are welcome and encouraged to compete in the national championships, which include marathon, half marathon, road racing, cross country, track & field and mountain running.

Top junior, senior and masters runners may be selected to represent Wellington at the New Zealand Road, Cross Country and Track and Field Championships. Several Scottish runners have won national medals in recent years and helped the Wellington centre win medals in all these championships.

Away trips

Each year the club travels to the North Island Cross Country Championships in Taupo, and to the New Zealand Road Relay Championships which moves to a different location each year.  In recent years over 100 club members have made the trip to road relays, and the club has been very successful, taking medals in senior and masters grades, as well as winning the prestigious top club trophy in 10 of the last 15 years.

Team spirit

Scottish is a big club and we take pride in supporting each other at competitions around the country. If you are wearing your Scottish singlet - even at an overseas marathon - don’t be surprised if a fellow club member spots you from the crowd and yells out ‘Go Scottish!”

Supporters Trust

We are proud of and support the achievements of our top athletes. The Scottish Supporters Trust provides funding (primarily for travel and entry fees) where finance is an issue, to ensure that our talented athletes can achieve their goals.
