College Sport Secondary Schools Road Running Championships, Westpac Stadium, 15 September 2004

The usual northerly greeted secondary school runners in road champs at Westpac Stadium.  Mariana Alletson (WHS) was the clear winner of the 3k race for Year 9 girls. Rongotai's Selemun Gebretsadik won the boys' race over the same distance by 5 seconds over Sam Sygrove (WC).

In the under 16 girls' race over 4k, old rivals Lauren Feyen and Tessa Hunt (HVHS) were the leaders with Lauren building a 14-second lead.  David Candy (Scots) led in James Thorstenson (HIBS) for the U16 boys 4k race.

In the senior girls grade (4k), Alice Mason was the first of four Wellington Girls College students leading in the field.  Katie Fenton was second.

The boys 6k event saw a tight tussle between Wellington College's Terefe Ejigu and Naenae's Abdulahi Guled and Tawa's Tim Hodge.

All told, 231 athletes turned out for the road championships, well up on last year's 137.  The races were organised and results compiled by Don Dalgliesh. Starter was Athletics Wellington president Bruce Perry, while Noelene Perry and John Turner were the time keepers.

Apologies: The team results appearing after the Under 16 Boys results belong to the Year 9 Boys race.

Here are the missing Under 16 Boys team results:
