Taupo Cross Country Races, North Island Cross Country Champs, 5 July 2008

You couldn't get more variation in the weather: sun, sleet, cold wind, rain, cycled through several times during the event. Good showing by Scottish, despite some gaps in the age grades. About 50 finished and a further half dozen supported.  Wellington Centre again picked up the provincial trophy.

Look for these Scottish members in the provisional results below (with top 10 placings noted here): G10: Melissa McAdam and Melissa Blackwood; G14, Ariana Harper, 5; W16: Nicole Mitchell, 2; Florence Reynolds, 5; Megan Blair; M16: Hector Farmer, 5; Malcolm Hodge; W19, Claire Hodge; M19: Brendon Blacklaws, 1; Ryan Woolley, 4; Corey Casey, 7; Evan Cooper; Jesse Patel; Sam Ritchie; Ethan Lankshear; Matthew Jackson; David Reynolds; Scott Kinnear; Nathan Bramley; Luke O'Donnell; SW: Natalie Smith; Laura Roozedaal; Aubrey Begley; Rebecca Speirs; Mandy Simpson; Jo Badham; SM: Glenn Hughes, 2; Rees Buck, 4; Stefan Smith, 10; Daniel Wallis; Julian Cook; Andrew McCarthy; Deano Gaskin; Rob Hanratty; Hamish Turner; Edward Sargisson; W45+: Christine Carleton, 6; Bev Hodge; Jenny Mason; Catherine Manchester (Harper); M35-49: Grant McLean, 1; Peter Wrigley; Neil Stodart; M50+: Graeme Lear, 3; Steve Plowman (running in NZ Police livery); Ken Howell; Paul Rodway; Ross Lake.

Many ran along the Waikato River trail on Sunday morning. With the desert and National Park roads closed by snow on Sunday, many also paid an involuntary visit to Napier. On the way, we stopped at a country cafe run by South Africans who explained that the flag on the roof was the Rugby World Cup flag, despite the strong resemblance to the flag of South Africa who lost to the All Blacks the previous night.

In the W16 race, Florence Reynolds was fifth, while in the senior women's race, Natalie Smith was our top runner taking 11th.

Leaders in the M19 5k race flood down the 2k link; A worried Ken Howell checks on his rapidly closing team mates in the M50 race.

Early in the senior men's race of 9k, Rees Buck leads eventual winner, Ben Ruthe, and third place getter, Sam Dobson; Ryan Woolley stays with eventual winner Brendon Blacklaws; finally, clear winner Grant McLean in the M35-49 race. (Photos by Gordon Blacklaws)
