Timex 3 Peaks Run, Event
3,
Clubhouse, 31 July 2005
The last of the three peaks series was held on Sunday, over
Wrights Hill. The Crows Nest and Odell Reserve. Although the rain held off, it was a bleak day, especially up at the
Crows Nest, which was covered for most of the morning in a cold mist. There were no views up there this time, which was a pity as it was the first time up there for several competitors.
Todd Stevens was first home over the three peaks, a few metres in front of Matt
Dravitzki. Damian Walsh ran well to come in third, and takes the overall male Bivouac Outdoor prize and title for all nine peaks. Newcomer from England, Emma Castle was the first woman, with the Anderson twins, Helen and Sally, second and third. Sally Anderson wins the women's Bivouac Outdoor prize for completing more peaks than any other woman over the three events.
Conditions were tougher than some expected, not helped by the organiser being slightly optimistic about the time it would take. But most fault lay with the very muddy tracks, and the fact that many did not do quite as much homework as they could have. No one seems to have got completely lost but some certainly ran further than they needed
to. The debate about the quickest way between the
Crows Nest and Wrights Hill is still unresolved.
Thanks especially to the marshalls: Howard Harman, Emma Brooks and Ross Lake, and to Jim Kerr and Della Laird for yet another batch of great scones. Des Young, Richard Brent and Phil Valentine helped at home base. And remember to support the sponsors: Timex Watches, Bivouac Outdoor, Lifestyle Sports and Ross Lake Autos.
It will all be on again next year and so please do send any feedback about the event, how it might be improved, and your favourite combinations of peaks to the organiser
(David Colquhoun).
* The asterix by some results indicates those finishers hitched a ride for the last few kilometres - they were running late for another appointment!
As for the Bivouac Outdoor
multi-event event mentioned above, four males ran the nine peaks: fastest was Damian Walsh in
8:02; Karl Woodhead, 8:25, 2; Richard Downing, 9:22, 3; and Roger Childs, 9:34,
4. No woman ran all nine, but Sally Anderson ran six in 6:19.
