The course showed the effect of a week of rain: boggy and slippery in places (yea, Robyn!) and the cutting of the pines from the ridge meant some last-minute course changes. The J-team won third place in their team event, our senior women were second, as were our masters men and men under 20/18. The masters women and the senior men won their teams events. So Scottish holds the Vosseler Shield again.
As for individuals, Melissa Moon again won the women's 5k race (20:02) by 35 seconds from Kate McIlroy (WHAC). Melissa was backed up by Alison Henderson (8) and Karen Evans (9). Among our masters, Robyn Stansfield and Alison Draine were 4th and 6th.
On the other side of the ledger, James Coubrough finally took out the open men's 10k event (38:00). He was about 150m (54 sec) ahead of wry-smiling Mike Wakelin (Oly). Hayden Prosser (Oly) was third. Nick Buck and Todd Stevens headed a line of Scottish members. Peter Wrigley, Des Young and Jim Kerr were our top three masters men.
Tim Hodge was first in the 3.2k boys-under-16 event. In the men 18/20 (5k), Scottish had a good showing: Tristan Rodway (5), Ben Christophers (6) and Alex Olssen and Axel Tie.
63 Scottish members finished the races. This year, our attendance was below that of the host club Wellington Harriers and so they win the Barry Everitt Plate, with Scottish second. In the mid-packs, there was a satisfying sea of yellow singlets. There were many others supporting from the sidelines, or pulling out (flared-up old injuries or freshly twisted ankles, lingering hangovers, etc. - the usual stuff).
This was the 50th time WHAC's Barry Everitt has run in the event.
