Scottish

Cold, squally and showery conditions saw 1500m runner Rees Buck (Scottish) outsprint mountain running rep Mike Wakelin (Olympic) in the men's 10k road race in Trentham for 31:37. Rees has recently returned from a season on the European track circuit where he routinely ran 1500s in the low 3:40s. Experienced road runner Grant McLean (Scottish) settled for third.

Former junior track star Kate McIlroy (Wellington Harriers) easily won the open women's 10k in a time of 35:23. This was Kate's first attempt at the distance and a come-back after injury. Her Wellington clubmates Gabby O'Rourke and Vickie Humphries ran second and third.

In the junior men's race over 6k, under-20 runner Danny Shaw was hard pressed by 15-year-olds Shaun Hunt, national cross-country champion, and Tim Hodge of Scottish. In the masters women's race over the same distance, Bernie Portenski (Scottish) was a clear 40 seconds ahead of Lee Berg of Wellington Harriers and Michele Allison (Scottish).
