Wellington Road Relay
Championships,
Carterton, 14 September 2002
Brilliant running conditions over the hill, with no trace left of the early morning hailstorm in the Wairarapa. In its second year, this replacement to the Valleys Relay attracted about 130 runners this year, with good representations from Wellington Harriers, Valleys United and Athletics Masterton. We put up 23, while Olympic had 13 runners on show. In the U16 race (two to a team), Wellington Harriers picked up the girls record, while the Olympic Harriers did the same with the boys. Wellington looked to have won the senior male grade as well (combining first and third teams), while Valleys United took the female grade first place. Tristan Rodway at 22:43 was the fastest Scottish runner around the flattish 7k loop (slightly under-measured?), by five and six seconds over Peter Wrigley and Karl Clayton. The other Peter Wrigley, the one who ran later for Aurora Harriers, was a touch slower. Scottish firsts: BU12, Social/Composite, Masters women. Olympic had the fastest BU14, BU16. Valleys won the Open women, and Masters men. Athletics Masterton won the MM50+. Wellington Harriers won every other grade: OM, GU12, GU14, GU16, WU20, MU20. Fastest lap was run by WHAC's Jason Cressingham in 21:13, while Vaughan New (VU) was fastest MM in 22:06. WHAC's Quentin Rew's 22:14 was the fastest MU20 time. The event is organised by Ray Wallis of Athletics Carterton with support from other Wairarapa clubs. Photos | Full results (Cool Running)
