Scottish walkers

Points of contact for Scottish walkers:  If you have a general inquiry contact Leeane Palmer (385-0803) and David Lonsdale (977-8990) will deal with general enquiries, dealing with membership, forthcoming events, information, and when and where training sessions are conducted. Peter Baillie (233-8726) is happy to be a point of contact for advice on race walking technique and training methods.

Here is the walkers' version of the 2009 winter calendar, covering the season from 21 March to 10 October. Weekend club walks (.pdf)  Scottish walking competitions explains how the club walking competitions - best all-rounder and club champs - are decided.

Walking coaching

Should you need help or personal coaching in the meantime, please contact Leeane or David, and we will arrange for you to obtain suitable assistance.

Meanwhile, here are some web-sites that may assist you.

Auckland Race Walking Association is up and running but not all pages are completed. www.racewalkingauckland.org

www.racewalk.com

Racewalk.com

The following is Racewalk.com's own blurb. "Racewalk.com is the single best source for race walking information on the Internet. Created in 1995, we have been a continual source of educational material, race results, photographs and of course the place to get the best books, videos, and soon DVDs about race walking. Whether you are competitive or just a recreational walker looking to maximize your workout, racewalk.com and its products are perfect for you."

www.philsport.com/narf/

North American Race-walking Foundation

This web-site is a MUST for any walker wanting to improve performance, especially race walkers and serious freestyle sports walkers.

Of particular interest on the site is “Racewalk 101” on the right of the top menu-bar. At the bottom of each page, there are several links to interesting articles – especially technique. But do not ignore the many other really great items to read and learn from.

Dave’s World Class Race-walking

Dave McGovern is a top walker with many hints and tips. One of the better sites – worth a good look.

Dave is somewhat opionated – here is one of his “opinions” – “Links? You don't need no stinkin' links! Everything you need to know about race-walking is in Dave's World-class Race-walking and “The Complete Guide to Race-walking Technique and Training.”

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~austcent/index.html

This is actually the “Australian Centurions” web-site – BUT do not be put off. There are several interesting items on the site, especially “Sundry articles on Walking” towards the bottom of the left hand navigation menu.

http://www.thewalkingsite.com/

The Walking Site - a reasonably informative site – especially for beginners.
