Race
10 has now come and gone – with yet another rough day to start with but
again we ended up with significantly better racing conditions, although
still a tough northerly. We
had just 47 participants with just two Lifetime PBs that I am aware of and
eight SPBs. Walkers:
Michael
Walton raced walked a Lifetime PB tonight – shaving nearly a whole
minute off his previous best performance – and a fine blow-out as he
prepares for the Masterton Half Marathon walk. His winning time was 28:27.
Second man was Richard Willis with 31:21 and third went to Philip Grimmett
in 31:25. Fastest woman tonight was Alison Samson who posted 31:06 with
Terri Grimmett taking second place – not far behind in 31:17 and third
place went to Carol Briesman – who returned for her first walk of the
season to post 37:03. Runners:
Backing up from last week’s win again tonight was Hayden Shearman who
recorded 16:37. Second place went to Jason Waite with a time of 17:10 and
third place – making it a Scottish trifecta for the men’s section -
was Vaile Mexted who ran 17:18. Fastest
woman tonight was the ever-improving young Scottish junior Ariana Harper
(also running a Lifetime PB and just pipping dad Jonathon as well) as she
posted an excellent time of 20:03. Second place went to
Letisha Tan who ran 23:39 and returnee to the waterfront 5k series Brenda
Franklin took third overall in 24:37. Thanks
again to tonight’s officials - Dan Powell, Bart Jones, Todd Stevens and
the Scottish Junior Men of Brendon Blacklaws, Ryan Woolley and honorary
junior Stefan Smith. A
REMINDER: From
now on the race times have changed as the advent of daylight saving allows
us to move the start time later in the evening. Ongoing details are: REGISTRATIONS
FROM: 5:30PM onwards
at The Chicago Sports Bar, Queen’s Wharf, WALKERS/RUNNERS:
5:45PM for all walkers and anyone who feels they will run around 26
minutes or more for the 5k race. It is preferred if you start at this time
to help keep the race within a manageable time space – I suggest also
that it makes for better racing for those runners joining the earlier
start time. RUNNERS
RACE:
6:00PM for all runners – expecting to run 26 minutes or less
