Waterfront 5k Series,
Spring, Race 3,
Queens Wharf, 19 August 2008
Race 3
presented us with almost ideal conditions – a gentle southerly breeze which helps on the homeward leg of the race. A solid
number of 68 participants tonight.
Walkers:
Glenn
Burrell returned to the
Wellington
waterfront 5k to take a further chunk off his personal time of two weeks previous – walking to win in 22:45. As is often
said, daylight was next! Second male home was in fact David Lonsdale with a good time for him of 34:37. Fastest woman, with
a PB, I gather, was Robyn McArthur who race-walked a time of 31:30. Second home was Terri Grimmett in a time of 32:12 and
third place went to Hannah Minot in a good time for her also of 34:39. Both the other two walkers also walked lifetime
personal best times this evening – Andrea Adams and Daphne Jones (well done!) and no doubt all of tonight’s walkers will
be turning out for this weekend’s Wellington Race Walking Championships – with this 5k blat being just an appetizer!
Runners:
Grant McLean of Scottish Harriers returned to the 5k series for a warm-up to this weekend’s 10k Road Champs when he posted
16:23 to win this evening’s race. Not far behind him Daniel Clendon of Wellington Harriers was in second with 16:35 and
just a few strides back was Al Adams in third place with 16:40. The winner of the woman’s race was Kim Daubney – first
time back for some two years – and posted a good time of 19:36 to comfortably beat Victoria Sugden into second placing.
Her time was 19:47 and third place went to Marjolein Ros with a 20:06 result.

who are participating in this weekend’s Wellington Centre Road Championships!
After just three races
we have now had no less than 150 participants – and tonight’s conditions saw six lifetime personal best performances
recorded along with no less than 31 series best performances – over half the field that is had improvements.
Thanks again to
tonight’s officials - Dan Powell, Bruce & Noeleen Perry, Mandy Simpson plus the huge turnout of Scottish masters men
who all responded to the call for help.
