Wellington Waterfront 5k Series, Spring, Race 4, Queens Wharf , 26 August 2008

Well, it had to happen – cold, wet southerly conditions prevailed tonight and as a result just 31 hardy (or was that fool-hardy!) participants fronted up to race. So just two lifetime PBs and two SPBs were posted.

Walkers: Correction – walker! Terri Grimmett, backing up from a solid 3rd placing in last Saturday’s Wellington Centre Championships, walked a solo race to record a time of 32:17.

Runners: A bronze medalist for the past weeks, Al Adams promoted himself to gold in this evening’s race to win overall in a time of 17:14. Second place went to Jay Macilquham with a time of 17:30 and third place went to Dave Parsons in a time of 17:42. First placed woman tonight was Marcelle Foley – who also recorded a huge lifetime PB of over 2 minutes – and was in fact the only woman runner prepared to front up to the conditions for the race. Marcelle’s time was 27:42 for the record.

Thanks again to tonight’s officials - Bruce and Noeleen Perry, Mandy Simpson, Karl Woodhead plus the great turnout of Scottish women – Jane Loughnan, Anne Hare, Belinda Buck and the hardy Christine Jones who voluntarily braved the turnaround point duty.
