Wow, we
already have a handful of races behind us and a total of 175 participants within the Spring series. Race 5 presented us with
slightly improved conditions from last week and numbers participating increased to 54 this evening – a blustery northerly
dying down just a little as the main race commenced. Walkers:
Philip
Grimmett was the only male race walker this evening and he took line honours in a Lifetime Personal Best time of 30:53. Just
a matter of seconds back – winning the women’s race - was his good lady, Terri Grimmett, who also walked a Lifetime
Personal Best in a time of 30:56. All augurs well for this weekend’s National Road Race Walking Championships in Hamilton. Best of luck to you both! Second woman home was Leanne Palmer in a time of 35:24 and third place went to Daphne Jones with
37:50. Runners:
Winner of this evening’s race was Daniel Clendon of Wellington Harriers with a time of 16:48 and just a few strides back
again was Al Adams in second place with 16:51. Third place was taken by Todd Oates who ran a good time of 17:10. The winner
of the woman’s race was young Olivia Sullivan – a first-time winner over 5k – who has shown significant improvements
this season and won in a time of 19:42. Second place went to another junior woman Victoria Sugden – fresh from second
place in the recent Wellington Road Champs with a time of 20:15. Third place went to Michele Allison with a 20:40 result. Good luck to all those
who are participating in this weekend’s National Road Championships in Hamilton! Tonight saw seven
Lifetime PBs posted along with 11 Series PBs. Well done to everyone who improved again tonight – just imagine what you
could do on a calm night! Thanks again to tonight’s officials - Dan Powell, Bruce & Noeleen Perry, Todd Stevens, Bernice Cavanagh plus the huge turnout of Scottish junior men who all responded to the call for help. Brendon Blacklaws, Nathan Bramley, Ethan Lankshear (turnaround) and Scott Kinnear.
