Wellington Waterfront 5k, Summer Series - Race 2, Queens Wharf, 4 November 2008

Well, summer was AWOL again this evening – more like stormy, wintery weather with the same ole northerlies! As a result, we had just three season's PBs recorded from the 42 finishers.

Walkers: Just one hardy race walker fronted tonight – so well done to Carol Briesman who actually walked a season’s PB to post 35:54. I do note that three other walkers in fact had a run this evening. Very versatile athletes it would seem.

Runners: A very tough night at the office with times perhaps 45s to 1 minute slower with this evening’s conditions. Fastest runner tonight was Matt Mintrom who ran the 5k in 17:20 and put over a minute on fellow PwC runner Todd Stevens who took second in 18:23 just ahead of visitor Kieran Sutherland, who ran 18:27 for third. Fastest woman was young Hutt Valley junior woman Renee Coffey who recorded 20:54 to win. Victoria Sugden claimed second in 21:00 and third place went to Lizzie McCaffrey with 21:03.

It was in fact a great turnout from the PriceWaterhouseCooper’s contingent tonight – with over a quarter of the field made up from that firm alone. Congrats all!

Congrats also to all weekly spot prize voucher winners – Darryl Robinson, Brian Hayes, Lizzie McCaffrey, John Shewan, Matt Walters, Sarah Moore and Rachel Wards.

A REMINDER:

From now on the race times have changed as the advent of daylight saving allows us to move the start time later in the evening. Ongoing details are:

REGISTRATIONS FROM:          5:30pm onwards at The Chicago Sports Bar, Queen’s Wharf, Wellington

WALKERS/RUNNERS:              5:45pm for all walkers and anyone who feels they will run around 26 minutes or more for the 5k race. It is preferred if you start at this time to help keep the race within a manageable time space – I suggest also that it makes for better racing for those runners joining the earlier start time.

RUNNERS' RACE:                      6:00pm for all runners – expecting to run 26 minutes or less
