Wellington Waterfront 5k, Summer Series - Race 3, Queens Wharf, 11 November 2008

Well, summer nearly made it tonight – but not quite! The same ole northerlies! We had just one Lifetime PB recorded and 17 season’s PBs from the 50 participants.

Walkers: Numbers swelled to a total of nine this evening. Fastest overall and first male home was Andrew Shelley who posted 30:43 for the 5k race walk. Second male was Philip Grimmett just one second back in 30:44 and third place went to Tim Dutton in 31:39. Fastest woman was Robyn McArthur with 31:16. Second went to Leanne Palmer in 34:56 and third going to Carol Briesman who walked a SPB time of 35:52.

Runners: The anticipated match race did not eventuate as Rohan Biggs let no one else in when he took first place overall tonight - recording a winning time of 16:48. Second went to Damian Walsh (who ran a very nice Series PB) in a good time of 17:09 and third went to Andy Bennett who recorded a time of 17:49 – also a good Series PB for Andy. Michele Allison posted a sub 19 minute Series PB in winning the woman’s race with a time of 18:55. Second went to Genevieve Bourke in 19:22 with third place going to Hannah Steel in 22:50.

Congrats also to all weekly spot prize voucher winners – Katherine Rosie, Emmaline Allwood, Rob Hanratty, Leanne Palmer, Howard Harman, Ian Fay, Hannah Steel and Terri Grimmett.

A REMINDER:

From next week onwards, we share the organization of weekly Waterfront 5k races with Olympic Harriers – nothing will change for all participants with all aspects of the 5k races remaining the same – just different faces doing the officiating each fortnight from November 18 through to the end of February 2009. So, ongoing details are:

REGISTRATIONS FROM:          5:30pm onwards at The Chicago Sports Bar, Queen’s Wharf, Wellington

WALKERS/RUNNERS:              5:45pm for all walkers and if you feel you'll run around 26 minutes or more for the 5k race. It is preferred if you start at this time to help keep the race within a manageable time space – I suggest also that it makes for better racing for those runners joining the earlier start time.

RUNNERS' RACE:                      6:00pm for all runners – expecting to run 26 minutes or less
