Wellington Waterfront 5k, Summer Series - Race 11,Queens Wharf, 13 January 2009  

Corrected results - sorry, a mess-up in the spreadsheet.

Well, Christmas and New Year are now behind us and we finally received some more favourable conditions – a light southerly wind prevailing tonight – almost unheard of this season! We had 56 finishers tonight with 12 SPBs and four lifetime PBs.

So congratulations go to Lynne Aplin, Terri Grimmett, Brett Story and Ioasa Kosena for their achievements tonight.

Walkers:  Michael Walton claimed first place overall and first male home with a winning time of 27:27. Second male was Tim Dutton in 30:52 with third male being Geoff Iremonger who recorded 34:46. Fastest woman – in a Lifetime PB time – was Terri Grimmett who walked the 5k in 30:16. No doubt Terri will blast through the 30 minutes barrier in the next few weeks. Second woman was Frances Le Fort in 35:18 and third went to Andrea Adams in 36:56.

Runners: Brian Garmonsway took line honours in the runners' event with a winning time of 17:11. There was a margin back Paul Ridley - who significantly improved on his first time run last week - in second with his time being 17:54 and Andy Bennett grabbed third in 18 minutes flat. Fastest woman tonight was Betty Harp who posted a winning time of 20:12 with Karen Gillespie taking second place in 21:13 and third went to first time participant Janine O’Dea who ran a time of 21:52.

A big thanks to tonight’s officials – Dan Powell, Rob Hanratty, Dave Parsons (turnaround), Vaile Mexted and Rees Buck - all members of the Scottish senior men’s section.

Spot prizes went to: Bruce Atmore, Betty Harp, Lana Henderson, Janine O’Dea, Daphne Jones, Patrick MacKay, Margarete Attwood and Lynne Aplin – congratulations to all.

Don’t forget – in two weeks' time we shall have a 10k option as well. More details will be posted in the future events section of the website next week.

REGISTRATIONS FROM:          5:30pm onwards at The Chicago Sports Bar, Queen’s Wharf, Wellington

WALKERS/RUNNERS:              5:45pm for all walkers and if you feel you'll run around 26 minutes or more for the 5k race. It is preferred if you start at this time to help keep the race within a manageable time space – I suggest also that it makes for better racing for those runners joining the earlier start time.

RUNNERS' RACE:                     6:00pm for all runners – expecting to run 26 minutes or less
