Upcoming events

Vosseler Shield - 25 May

  • The Vosseler Shield is sometimes called the toughest cross country race in New Zealand. It has been running since 1923 and is organised by Wellington Harriers. It loops up and over the trails on Mt Victoria. Women and older masters run one lap of 5km. Men below the age of 60 run two laps, or 10km.
  • Anyone who is a registered member of the club can run - no need to pre-enter. But you do need to join the club by 22 May to be eligible to compete.

Dorne Cup - 8 June

  • The Dorne Cup is organised by Hutt Valley Harriers and is one of the most highly regarded cross country races in New Zealand. It is run at Trentham Memorial Park. The course is mostly flat but goes over some stop banks, small jumps and through the stream each lap. 6 km for women and men over 60. 8km for men under 60.

Trinity pack run - 15 June

  • Our first friendly shared club run with Wellington Harriers and Olympic is on 15 June, starting from the Wilton Bowling Club next door to Otari Wilton Bush. The bowling club is letting us use their clubrooms as a base for free and has invited us to join them for a drink at their bar afterwards.

North Island Cross-Country Championships 2019, Spa Park, Taupō - 6 July 2019

  • This is a great opportunity for a fun weekend away with other club members. It is one of the main club away trips during the harrier season. The NIXCC includes events for juniors, seniors and masters, over a variety of distances up to 9 km (for the senior men). The courses in Spa Park are over undulating terrain, and they provide a good test of fitness. The conditions underfoot are almost always firm and fast. The event is well managed and attracts competitors from many North Island regions. We had 42 club members plus a few supporters taking part in the NIXCC in 2018 and would love to get a similar number again this year. The weekend away is good value, because we arrange car-pooling, and stay together in group accommodation. We have already booked the same accommodation as last year (Silver Fern Lodge), because it was warm, comfortable and convenient. We usually attend a group dinner on Saturday evening, sometimes with teams from other clubs.
  • Please register your interest now, and book yourself away that weekend. We recommend that you plan on departing Wellington around midday Friday so that we can issue your race-pack to you on Friday evening. We usually arrange a Sunday morning run in Taupō before we depart for home.

  • Expressions of Interest (EOI) for this winter's Athletics Wellington representative teams are now open. You will find details in the NEWS section on the Athletics Wellington website. Please read the information in the form, and complete your EOI if you wish to be considered for the Wellington teams this year. Two points to note for this year, (a) the masters women's team will be now done on the same basis as the men, so there will be an MW35 team and an MW50 team and (B) the WU18 XC distance is now 5km, instead of the 4km run last year. Additional information re the Road Champs in Auckland on 15 September: This event will be held at Pulman Park, in Papakura, and that weekend at Pukekohe is the NZ Round of Super 8 motor racing. That means accommodation in Auckland and flights to and from Auckland are in great demand, with the airfares already $109 each way. The team has secured accommodation at Pulman Lodge, close to the course. This facility only caters for sports groups, but most of the accommodation is in bunkrooms and dormitories. If you want to compete at the road champs, book your airfares as soon as possible, and if our accommodation is not to your liking, then book your own soon. Remember that the centre will pay for your night at Pulman Lodge, but not for any accommodation you organise yourself.
  • Please renew your membership on our online membership system now - you just need a credit/debit card. If you want to take advantage of the discounted friends deal, please email membership@scottishathletics.org.nz and we will pay you a $15 rebate to existing members for any new member you have introduced plus we will give your friend who has joined a $15 rebate.
  • Athletics Wellington relies on the help of officials during all events to ensure the athletes can participate safely and get results at the end of the day. Officials are a very important part of the sport. Without them, we would not be able to host events or provide results to our athletes. Furthermore, without enough qualified officials at our events, athletes will not be able to qualify for higher honours/events. So, Athletics New Zealand is providing a new opportunity for officials across the country to get an IAAF qualification, TOECS Level 2. Athletics Wellington is willing to help fund any additional expenses in certain circumstances to help make this goal easier for our officials. It encourages all interested parties, whether you are a current or future official, to get in touch with it if by emailing Karin Burger on karin@athleticswellington.org.nz. Please find more information on the course by clicking HERE.
